Hershel Yatovitz has played guitar since the age of 12. He is proficient on guitar and bass and draws from a variety of styles, including rock, jazz, blues, African, reggae, Latin, Euro-ethnic, country and folk. He performed and taught for nine years at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, where he worked with Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Joe Pass and many other jazz luminaries. He is also an experienced producer and recording engineer with a wide range of album credits. Prior to joining Silvertone in 1995, Yatovitz played guitar for the Paul Durham Band, a Berkeley-based group that achieved greater notoriety as Black Lab. East Bay jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter recommended Yatovitz to audition for Isaak. One of 50 candidates who vied for the coveted spot Isaak recognized Hershel's talent and offered him the job. It took some persuading from Kenney Dale Johnson, but Hershel left the Durham band and signed on with the Silvertones and has been Chris Isaak’s lead guitarist for many years and he continues to tour and record with Isaak (pictured left).
“Hersch” has also played with and produced for a plethora of other internationally renowned artists such as Booker T., Michelle Branche, Michael Buble’, Brandi Carlyle, Glen Campbell, Bo Diddley, Pete Escovedo, Stevie Nicks, Minnie Driver, Gloria Estefan, Brian McKnight, Bret Michaels(Poison), Vince Neal(Motley Crue), Bonnie Raitt, Brian Setzer, Joe Walsh, Trisha Yearwood, Paul Stanley (KISS), and the list just goes on! In 2016 D&A was lucky enough to bring him on board the official D&A Artist Roster… coincidentally, the very first D&A Guitar Gear that he ever used, he purchased himself (as have almost all of our artists on our roster). We’re proud to have him!
